Our clients usually want patent protection in several large markets that include the EU, the US, Japan, China, Korea, and Brazil. The Patent Cooperation Treaty(PCT) provides an entry into the patent process in virtually every country in the world. A PCT application does not result in a “World patent” but saves time and money for those seeking multinational patent protection. A PCT application can be filed with the Swedish Patent Office (PRV), EPO or another patent authority, depending on the nationality of the applicant. PCT applications are often filed after a first filing with a national or regional patent office. An international PCT application may enter a regional or national phase, generally within 30 months from the first filing.
KIPA manages the filing and prosecuting of PCT applications with the EPO as well as regional applications before the EPO.
